I grew up in Columbus Ohio, My Dad was chairman of the Nuclear Engineering Department at OSU where I went to college (class of 78) and met my wife, Janice. I came to Cincinnati for Medical School (class of 82) and met my mentor Doctor Bernie Aron and I stayed for residency in his department. I enjoyed teaching and the collegian atmosphere of the Department they asked me to stay on as faculty member and have stayed there for now 30 years. I have 3 children now all grown, Maggie who is a pediatric allergy doctor at Columbus Children's, son Joe who works in Chicago and younger daughter Caylee who works here in Cincinnati. My hobby is brewing beer and I've been the president of the College Hill Beer Club for 10 years which means I brew the beer and the rest of the guys drink it.

On a professional level I was the Radiation Oncology residency program director for many years which I enjoyed and for a couple of years was interim Co-Director of the department which I did not enjoy. I also established our Radiation Oncology clinic at the VA and set up a prostate implant service where we served as a referral center for the VA bringing in Vets from across the country to get prostate implants here. From the mid 1990's to 2005 we performed over a 1000 prostate implants. I also have been Principal Investigator (PI) for the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG), now NRG cooperative cancer study group at UC. Although I don't consider myself a prostate specialist most of my work has been in lung, head and neck and prostate cancer.
